WASHINGTON » Republican Donald Trump insists that he’s not flip-flopping when it comes to his proposal to deport the estimated 11 million people living in the United States illegally — even though his new campaign manager now says his stance is “to be determined.”

Trump said in an interview with Fox & Friends today that he’s “not flip-flopping,” but wants to come up with “a really fair, but firm” solution.

Trump had previously proposed using a “deportation force” to remove the 11 million people living in the United States illegally— a proposal that excited many of his core supporters, but alienated Hispanic voters who could be pivotal in key states. Republican leaders fear that Trump can’t win — and could drag down GOP congressional candidates — if he doesn’t increase his support beyond his white, male base.

Trump met Saturday with Hispanic supporters, representatives of a community that has been wary of the billionaire businessman’s deportation proposals and his plans to build a giant wall on the U.S.-Mexico border. Questioned on whether Trump still intends to deploy the deportation force, campaign manager Kellyanne Conway said Sunday: “To be determined.”

There have been previous signs that Trump might be moderating his stance on deportations. At last month’s GOP convention, the Republican National Committee’s director of Hispanic communications, Helen Aguirre Ferre, told reporters at a Spanish-language briefing that Trump has said he will not do massive deportations. Hispanic and religious leaders who met privately with Trump ahead of the convention said he signaled that he is open to embracing a less punitive immigration policy that focuses on “compassion” along with the rule of law.

Trump’s comments today come as Republican officials insist the GOP nominee is finally hitting his stride and will catch up with Democrat Hillary Clinton by early September, following a major shake-up to his campaign. Polls now mostly show Trump lagging Clinton by 5 percentage points or more nationally.

“Donald Trump has been disciplined and mature. And I think he’s going to get this thing back on track,” Reince Priebus, the Republican National Committee chairman, said Sunday.

Conway echoed Priebus’ optimism, contending that the candidate just had the best week of his campaign, “mostly because he’s able to be himself, the authentic Donald Trump.”

Conway was named to her post last week in a shake-up in which the campaign chairman, Paul Manafort, resigned and conservative media firebrand Stephen Bannon, who led Breitbart News, took over as campaign chief executive.

A new style was immediately evident as Trump, in a first, offered regrets for any remarks that had caused offense, stuck with his teleprompter at a series of events, and paid a visit to flood-ravaged Louisiana. Trump also announced his first ad buys of the campaign, more evidence of an acceptance of the traditional campaign elements most experts believe he will need in order to have a shot at winning. He made a direct appeal to African-American voters, insisting he wants the Republican Party to become their political home.

Clinton’s campaign manager, Robby Mook, disputed claims of a turnaround in Trump’s candidacy. “We’re not seeing a pivot. Donald Trump himself said this was not a pivot. He wants to double down on letting Donald Trump be Donald Trump,” Mook said.

Indeed, Trump was back to his old self on Twitter this morning. He went after MSNBC’s “Morning Joe,” tweeting that the show is “unwatchable!” and said its host, Mika Brzezinski, “is off the wall, a neurotic and not very bright mess!”

Conway had said Sunday that Trump “doesn’t hurl personal insults.”

Conway, Mook and Priebus were interviewed on ABC’s “This Week.” and Conway also spoke on CNN’s “State of the Union.”

  • He’s not going to deport people and now isn’t decided on “the wall.”

That’s called a flip flop. It’s a good thing his supporters can’t tie their own shoe laces. They’ll never be able to figure out that he was lying before or he’s lying now.

    • There is no lie, crime, or theft that TRUMP could commit that lying criminal thievery HILLARY has not already committed.

      TRUMP / PENCE 2016!!!

      GO BOWS!!!

        • WASHINGTON (AP) — The State Department said Monday it is reviewing nearly 15,000 previously undisclosed emails recovered as part of the FBI’s now-closed investigation into the handling of sensitive information that flowed through Hillary Clinton’s private home server.

Lawyers for the department told U.S. District Court Judge James E. Boasberg on Monday that they anticipate processing and releasing the first batch of these new emails in mid-October, raising the prospect new messages sent or received by Democratic nominee could become public just before November’s presidential election. The judge is overseeing production of the emails as part of a federal public-records lawsuit filed by the conservative legal advocacy group Judicial Watch.

        • Sarge deflected again…shocker. Hey, Sarge, what about Donald’s position, you know, the subject of this article.

        • It’s all about the election. Since SA/AP is only following Trump we have to get the news out on HiLIARy. i.e.,Benghazi, IRS, classified emails, Clinton Foundation, health issues, sexual predator husband and the Clinton body count.

    • Klastri, now watch the State by State polls, and it’s not yet Labor Day. Mr. Trump is on target and doing well. Your candidate, Ms Clinton again, must answer questions on the 14,800 new emails that were found by the FBI.

        • Trump doesn’t have American Blood on his hands..hiLIARy is dripping with American Blood. You think flip flopping is worst than that..God help you.

        • The point is not related to Benghazi, the point is that this article is related to Trump’s immigration position, which keeps changing. What I am complaining about, is exactly what you are doing, not addressing what is being spoken about here, but changing the subject, presumably because you have no way to address his flip flopping.

By the way, all American leaders have American blood on their hands. Trump has never been a leader, so of course he doesn’t have any.

        • Advertiser1, what change of position? That a President Trump will deport all illegal immigrants, starting with the illegals who have broken American laws. Mr. Trump is becoming more specific on his and America’s position. Also, my opinion, that a President Trump will imprison all returning illegals who has been deported and arrested in the United States to be incarcerated at Guantanamo, Cuba.

        • Why do you ASSUME there had been a change in his intent/position?

You ‘news’ media folk seem on a hair trigger to make such assumptions so long as they work on behalf of the candidate you back and damage the other candidate.

How in the heck can you call yourself a ‘journalist’ and look at yourself in the mirror?

What passes for journalism these days looks a lot like taking dictation from the Democrat Party.

        • Guys, fair enough, I guess, the question is, what is his position? Are we still going to build the wall (and make Mexico pay for it, which it has already said it would and could not)? Are we still going to go ahead and create some secret police agency to kick out the illegal immigrants? And what about the Muslims? Ok, so maybe flip flopping is the wrong way to look at it. What is the position? How are we paying for this secret police agency? Kuro, and how are we going to fund the new locked up immigrants, when the prison system can’t even hold the ones we have now.

Thos, are you daft? This is just a screen name I’m not a journalist.

        • Advertiser1, Mr. Trumps position will remain the same on illegal immigration. He will fine tune the basic positions by laying out building the wall between Mexico and the United States and have Mexico pay for the wall. By laying out the deportation of illegal aliens and the process of accomplishing the objective, including the organization of the “Deportation Force” conforming to existing laws. By laying out the freezing of providing visa’s for Muslims and others seeking entry into the United States from Countries that support ISIS, until a “Serious Vetting Procedure” can be established and approved by Congress. Upon approval of Congress of the various illegal immigration programs and the existing already approved $1 billion that Hawaii born President Obama refuses to spend is available. There will be funds available to expand for illegal aliens to be detained in the United States and maybe to be held at Guantanamo.

    • agree..he is wimping out as we knew he would. He was never going to do a thing he was saying. The bravado was all part of an act to attract uneducated whites to support him.

    • One is tempted to call Klas-less a disgrace to the legal profession, but truth be told he is probably a typically shallow, thoughtless money grubber to whom the truth matters not a whit. Doubt that? Recall the OJ miscarriage of justice? Top defense lawyers were able to seat a nullification jury that would not convict no matter what – -for which the dream team of lawyers was handsomely recompensed.

Not how unsure of the facts he is, he must resort to ad hominem pejoratives, repeated over and over again.

  • There is no lie, crime, or theft that TRUMP could commit that lying criminal thievery HILLARY has not already committed.

    TRUMP / PENCE 2016!!!

    GO BOWS!!!

  • Let’s see… Trump wants an immigration policy that focuses on “compassion” along with the rule of law. Clinton wants total amnesty for illegal aliens, open boarders, and bringing in thousands of “Muslim Refugees” like the ones rioting throughout Europe. Your vote matters.

    • Former Secretary of State Colin Powell is pushing back on Hillary Clinton’s reported claims that he advised her to use a personal email account — telling reporters that the Democratic presidential nominee is trying to “pin” the scandal on him.

The New York Times reported last week that Clinton told the FBI that Powell detailed to her his email practices under George W. Bush. The paper cited a passage from an upcoming book about Bill Clinton’s post-presidency that read, “Powell told her to use her own email, as he had done, except for classified communications, which he had sent and received via a State Department computer.”

Powell, in response, said in a statement he only sent her a memo about his email practices and had no recollection of this conversation with Clinton.

He elaborated on that statement to The New York Post, saying “The truth is she was using it (her personal email) for a year before I sent her a memo telling her what I did.”

He added that, “her people have been trying to pin it on me.”

Powell said it didn’t bother him, according to The Post.

      • In Benghazi, it was NOT Hillary’s decision to not mount a rescue mission, rather more like a political decision made by Obama’s Valerie Jarrett. Hillary was just following orders to misdirect with the bogus anti-muslim video narrative. SAME could be said with Colin Powell who was ordered by Cheney and Rumsfeld to go before the UN and make the B S bogus case of a mobile weapons factory program in Iraq based on a single Iraqi dissident that German intelligence nicknamed “Curveball”. Powell knew it was B S because he demanded CIA chief Tenet to sit right behind him when he made the bogus claim of Saddam’s new chemical weapons program. Hillary will become the next Pres of the US, despite what being a corrupt person. HOWEVER Trump is even more corrupt, however add being a racist, misogynist and an egomaniac who is ill suited to become the next Pres of the US. On top of which he refused to release his tax statements, which every other Pres of the US has done in the past. Say what you want regarding Hillary, cause I won’t disagree with you however Hillary was grilled in the Benghazi hearing for 11 years and they could not rattle her. Trump on the other hand, will often lose his temper and acts irrationally because of just one public negative comment about him. Trump thinks like David Duke or even Charles Lindburgh and has publicly stated the internment of the AJA during WW2 might have been correct, but he cannot say for sure because he was not making the decision at the time. I wonder if the parents of slain veteran Humayan Khan who was awarded the bronze star for saving his soldiers where not dark skinned, Trump would not have nasty comments about the father and mother. That is the problem with a racist, they cannot see beyond the color of one’s skin. Because Khan and his parents are dark skinned, non-Caucasian and Muslim, in the eyes of racist, they cannot be considered true Americans that are worthy of respect and honor. Trump is going to lose big and he is going to bring down the Republican party with him in Demo’s regaining part or all of the Congress. Repubs will learn the hard way that they should be like Demo’s that have Superdelegates to avoid putting someone like Trump or Bernie Sanders on the party’s ticket. Had the Repubs had a ticket like Kasich for Pres and Rubio for VP, the Repubs would have most likely taken back the Whitehouse. Foxnews is also going down in flames because they have no choice but to support Trump and the ousting of their perv boss Ailes. Forget attacking Bill as a perv because Trump and Ailes are just as bad. Predict CNN after Hillary becomes Pres of the US will dominate ratings over Foxnews

  • It’s obvious that Trump and the Republican Party can’t be trusted by their expressed thoughts and comments! Trump will lose the election on November 8th, and the Remaining Republican Party will slowly but surely be dissolved because of their support for Trump.

The good and bad of voting is, anyone can “vote” … the informed and rational as well as the uninformed and irrational!

Those who don’t or haven’t voted before, carry a lot of power in the outcome of this election.

When you’re comfortable … you tend not to vote … you will pay dearly if Trump becomes our next President.

  • Unless Illegals…..wait ,wait sorry, forgive me “Undocumented” Illegals. lol Unless Illegals has some way of VOTING I don’t think it ,to be a problem for Mr.Trump. Let’s secure our Borders 1st,at the same time allowing LEGAL immigrants, via our legal process for entry. Get in Line!
Many of these illegals come here on visas, when those Visa’s expire they simply blend into society. While many Illegals come here Illegally crossing our borders, these are the very ones that are “in your face” Breaking the law!
Also Donald has to show compassion and understanding. Especially to the Illegals with Families with Children and this will be a problem if not addressed correctly. But knowing Donald Trump,I know he’ll come up with a good and fair solution for all.

Oh! BTW Congratulation President Trump on an Outstanding Week! You’re within single digits of “Sweet Hillary”. Numbers are rising again ! Yaaaaaaay!
A famous quote: “A Country Is Not A Country Without Borders”.Got that right!
    Go Donald!

  • not only he is flipping but he has already flipped brain wise. anyone his pivot now is too late, the damage has been done with his original comments about immigration, building the wall, deporting 11 million immigrants, etc. he cannot claim he was kidding originally as there are much evidence where he was questioned about his comments and he said they were true and honest. so all African americans, latinos, muslims and other minorities should not vote for him, he is only talking nonsense; if elected he will do nothing like he is now promising; in fact, he will revert to his original plans. he claims Hillary is using the black and latino votes for election, but that is exactly what he is doing now. all he wants is their vote, nothing more. hypocrite.

    • How can Donald be a Hypocrite ? I fail to see your logic. He’s not or has ever been a politician, like Hillary Clinton. Who has been in the Political eye for 30+ years? Who has promised the “Moon” especially to Afro-Americans. “Promises”?? ……made by yours truly ,”Hope and Change”? And yet, with this famous Mantra…….Has their Lives improved?
What do they have to lose? Ai!

  • admitting that the clinton foundation is really a $2 billion money laundering scheme, the foundation suggested that it may not continue soliciting bribes if the female felon is elected to president.

the artificial bribing deadline is expected to trigger even larger payments from repressive governments that use huma abedin to funnel their cash and requests for political favors.

however, the clinton global initiative will continue to accept bribes even if the female felon is elected president as their collections are too lucrative to walk away from.

  • Here’s one more for the lock her up.

The US has entered into an exclusive contract with a real estate firm to sell 56 buildings that currently house U.S. Post Offices.
The sale of these properties will fetch about $19 billion. A regular real estate commission will be paid to that company. That company is CRI, CRI will be making a minimum of 3% and as much as 6% commission on each and every sale.

CRI belongs to a man named Richard Blum. Richard Blum is the husband of Senator Dianne Feinstein Senator Feinstein and her husband stand to make a fortune from these transactions. (EST at between $950 million and $1.1 billion!!)

How does a U.S. Senator from San Francisco manage to organize and lobby such a sweet deal?

Has our government become so elitist that they have no fear of oversight? Isn’t this a cousin to insider trading? Pass this info on before it’s pulled from the Internet.

  • Now would be a good time for both candidates to start acting like adults and talk about the issues that people actually care about. Do we actually have to tell these candidates what everyday, hard working people actually care about?

Who really needs to come home after a hard day of work, watch the news, and see (and even worst hear) more of the same, over and over again?

  • Obama said,
Jul 27, 2016 – … a woman, not me, not Bill Clinton, nobody, more qualified than Hillary Clinton to serve as president …
    What is that. A joke?

  • Trump will continue to Flip and Flop, to draw more attention to himself. His flops has offended many in this country, and his flips has been frequent. One probable scenario is Trump could be elected POTUS, by some improbable chance. His continuing flips and flops could be so divisive, and not in be best interest of the USA. Never-the-less, it would meet his goal of establishing him as a “notable” POTUS, would be remembered for his follies rather then accomplishments It is unlikely that he would serve a four year term. He could resign, or more likely, be “impeach” by Congress. Unfortunately, residents of the U.S. must live with actions,of this attention-seeking fool. Difficult to imagine how Trump-the-lump might contribute to, or be receive at meetings of global leaders. Perhaps, in the best interest of the country, Trump will withdraw his candidacy in the fall, and the Republication Party may finally realize the great Hawaiian statesman K.K. Kaumanua would be a more electable candidate.
