LAS VEGAS » Nevada gambling regulators have fined a 79-year-old Las Vegas tavern owner who they say allowed patrons to engage in sex acts in plain sight.

The Las Vegas Sun reports Judy R. Nelson will have to pay $27,000 and will have a three-month freeze on her gambling license, which permits up to 15 slot machines.

Her lawyer argued against a larger fine, saying it would financially gut someone who lives on bar proceeds and Social Security.

Officials say Nelson’s gay bar, the Las Vegas Eagle, held promotions including "Butt Night," in which contestants bared their buttocks. A promotion dubbed "Locker Room Lockdowns" allowed patrons to participate in sexual activities.

Commissioners say the activities tarnished the reputation of Nevada’s gambling industry.

Nelson says she didn’t know about the events until afterward.
