Honolulu police released this image taken by a security camera of a possible suspect in the murder of a homeless man in Kailua on Jan. 13.

Honolulu police released a shadowy image and security camera video of a possible suspect in the stabbing death of Scott MacMilan in Kailua on Jan. 13.

MacMilan, 37, was stabbed near Cinnamon’s Restaurant on Uluniu Street, where he slept at night at about 11:35 p.m. He suffered multiple injuries and died at the  hospital.

MacMillan, a graduate of Kalaheo High School, was a former chef at Lucy’s Grill & Bar in Kailua, where President Barack Obama dined a couple of times some years ago.

MacMillan turned to alcohol, went on a downward spiral and died homeless, friends said.

A man who lives nearby said sometime after 11:30 p.m. Monday, he heard MacMillan calling for help near where he usually slept and heard a woman screaming.

Police released security camera video showing a shadowy figure dressed in a dark hoodie walking near a stairwell.

Anyone with information on the case is asked to call police or CrimeStoppers at 955-8300 or *CRIME on a cellular phone.
