A 54-year-old Texas woman died Thursday after falling 15 to 20 feet from a narrow ledge above some pools at Kipahulu, Maui.

Maui fire personnel responded to the 5:31 p.m. alarm for a visitor who fell.

Firefighters found the woman unconscious, lying halfway in the water at the lower pool at Oheo, located makai of Hana Highway.

The woman was trying to get from one pool to another on a narrow ledge when she fell.

Bystanders performed cardiopulmonary resuscitation.

The fire helicopter airlifted the woman to a landing zone to nearby campgrounds.

Medics took over patient care and tried to resuscitate her. She was pronounced dead at the scene, a fire spokesman said by e-mail.
