NEW ORLEANS » Tropical Storm Karen has stalled but is expected to resume moving north and be near or over portions of southeastern Louisiana on tonight and Sunday.
The National Hurricane Center says in an advisory that Karen hasn’t moved for a few hours. But forecasters continue to expect it to turn toward the northeast by Saturday night, then speed up into Sunday. They say the storm is likely to pass near the coasts of Mississippi and Alabama on Sunday.
Karen is about 130 miles south-southwest of Morgan City, La., and about 190 miles west-southwest of the mouth of the Mississippi River.
A tropical storm warning remains in effect from Morgan City to the mouth of the Pearl River. A tropical storm watch covers the New Orleans area and a stretch from east of the Pearl River’s mouth to Indian Pass, Fla.
