A 33-year-old woman died at the scene of a shooting this morning in Waikiki and a man was taken to the hospital in serious condition.
Honolulu police responded early this morning to what they are calling an apparent murder-attempted suicide in Waikiki that left a 33-year-old woman dead and a 40-year-old man hospitalized with serious injuries.
Paramedics took the man, who had a gunshot wound, to Queen’s Medical Center from the 100-unit Ala Wai Townhouse condominium at 2421 Ala Wai Boulevard after being called to the building at about 4:25 a.m.
CIty Emergency Medical Services personnel said the woman was dead on arrival.
Honolulu Police Capt. Lisa Mann said there are no other suspects in what is an apparent murder-attempted suicide case.
Police would not say if the 911 call originated from the 20-story Ala Wai condominium.
Two Army Criminal Investigation Command investigators also were called to the scene. One of the investigators said they were there because the man was believed to be a soldier.
Several people who live in the building said they didn’t hear any shots this morning. But several residents from nearby apartment buildings told reporters about hearing multiple gunshots early Saturday morning.
Larry Trusedell said just after 3 a.m. Saturday: “I heard 5 to 7 shots. When I looked out I expected to see police, but I saw nothing.”
Johnny Rox, who also lives adjacent to the Ala Wai Townhouse, also reported hearing gunfire on Saturday. He said “the cops are here all the time.”
