A 25-year-old woman died Sunday after she lost control of the car she was driving and hit a rock wall in Keaau.

Hawaii County police identified the driver as Christina K. Fujiyama who died at Hilo Medical Center where she was taken after the 3:28 p.m. accident on 20th Avenue off Kaloli Drive in the Hawaiian Paradise Park subdivision in Keaau.

Puna patrol officers said Fujiyama was driving a  1994 Acura four-door sedan and heading  east on 20th Avenue when she lost control and struck a rock wall.

Fujiyama was not wearing a seat belt and was ejected from the vehicle, police said.

It is unknown at this time if alcohol or drugs were involved, but speed was a factor in this crash.

Police ask anyone with information about the accident to call Officer Clarence Acob at 961-2293.

Because this crash occurred in a private subdivision, the death is not counted toward the island’s official traffic fatality count.
