A 57-year-old woman pedestrian died this morning after a sport utility vehicle hit her at the corner of North King Street and Waiakamilo Road in Kalihi.

The woman was crossing Waiakamilo Road in a marked crosswalk at 6:40 a.m. when she was hit by a Cadillac Escalade EXT driven by a 54-year-old Oahu man, police said.

The SUV was turning left on to Waiakamilo Road from North King Street. The woman was taken to in critical condition to the Queen’s Medical Center in critical condition, where she died of head and bodily injuries.

Police said speeding did not appear to be a factor in the collision. The driver was not taken into custody.

It was the second fatal pedestrian collision in the Kalihi area in the past week. On Tuesday, Leemar Dacanay, 30, of Kalihi, was hit by a pickup truck in a crosswalk on Kalihi Street near Eluwene Street about 6:10 a.m. Dacanay died Wednesday from injuries sustained in the collision.
