The Medical Examiner’s Office has identified the 88-year-old Pearl City woman, who died Monday after she fell down in a Pearl City parking lot while pushing a shopping cart and was run over by a truck, as Edith Yoshida.
An autopsy will be conducted to determine cause of death.
Police said Yoshida was pushing a shopping cart from Coffee Bean & Tea Leaf to Foodland at around 9:04 a.m. at the Pearl City Shopping Center when she fell on her stomach.
The 37-year-old male driver of a 2014 Nissan truck did not see Yoshida fall and ran her over, police said.
Yoshida was taken from the shopping center on Kamehameha Highway in critical condition to Pali Momi Medical Center, where she later died.
This was the 30th traffic-related fatality on Oahu this year, compared to 30 at the same point last year.

Bunch of idiots driving around in trucks in that Pearl City shopping center. Impatient fools who cannot wait for cars to exit their parking stall nor wait for an old lady to cross safely. 9:04 AM? Are you blind?? Then you should not be driving. Own up to the negligent homicide. Congratulations fool, you just killed someone’s mother and grandmother. My sincerest condolences to the Yoshida family.

tygah is correct. That is a wide open area with plenty of time for reaction. The driver will not admit to what he was doing due to lawsuit and punishment.
Where was her family in all this? Most people that age shouldn’t be going shopping alone. A few have the physical and mental abilities to do things independently, but even those might be better off accompanied by an aide.
Tragic accident! We don’t know the true circumstances. The Driver must live what transpired, a death occurred under his watch, he must be as devastated as the Victim’s family. Negative comments in this sad situation doesn’t help but causes more heartaches for everyone, but the rude and bad Posters! Compassion can be the start of healing and benefits everyone! God bless!
This is quite right. We don’t know enough and should leave judgment to the jury. No one should make a call based on SA’s reporting.
