Woman suffering from ‘bends’ taken to hospital
A 62-year-old woman was transported to a hospital in serious condition Friday morning after apparently suffering from the “bends,” according to an Emergency Medical Services report.
The incident occurred at 10:22 a.m. at Kewalo Basin.
The bends is a popular term for decompression sickness, in which dissolved gasses bubble within the body due to rapid changes in pressure. The condition can occur during scuba diving or high-altitude activities.
