Archaeological excavations for the city’s rail project will begin next week from Kalihi through Kakaako. 

Workers will conduct excavation work in the following locations:

>> Portions of Kamehameha Highway and Dillingham Boulevard in Kalihi from Middle Street to Kohou Street, from 8:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m., or on some days from 8 p.m. to 5 a.m.

>> Halekauwila Street from Richards Street to Punchbowl Street from 8:30 a.m. and 3:30 p.m.

>> Halekauwila Street from Punchbowl to Keawe Street from 8:30 p.m. and 5 a.m.

>> Halekauwila Street from Keawe to Cooke street from 8:30 a.m. and 3:30 p.m.

>> Punchbowl Street from Pohukaina Street to Nimitz Highway from 6 p.m. to 6 a.m.

The trenching work for the 4.3-mile fourth phase of the rail route will take place through summer 2012. The work will require lane closures as well as left-turn lane closures for some intersections at night.
