Honolulu has highest-priced Christmas car rentals

Honolulu will have the highest daily car rental rates in the nation over the Christmas holiday season, according to a new survey by CheapCarRental.net.

Honolulu's average daily rate of $106 is 112 percent higher than what customers normally would pay.

Travelers in Miami will pay nearly triple the normal rate, or $84 per day to rent a car between Dec. 22 and Dec. 27. The normal average daily rate is $24. CheapCarRental.net found the Miami percentage hike to be the biggest in its survey.

The top 5 markets for percentage rate increases for daily car rentals were:

1. Miami $84 (250 percent); 2. Phoenix $76 (181 percent); 3. Denver $62 (148 percent); 4. Las Vegas $56 (143 percent), 5. Honolulu $106 (112 percent).
