New Hampshire enjoys the highest level of economic freedom among all 50 states, while Hawaii’s is among the lowest, a new study suggests.
The Canada-based Fraser Institute report ranks the economic freedom of states and other markets around the world as measured by government spending, taxation and labor market restrictions using data from 2013, the most recent year available.
“In New Hampshire, high levels of economic freedom help create prosperity and economic growth for working families,” said Dean Stansel, economics professor at Southern Methodist University and co-author of the annual “Economic Freedom of North America” report.
Behind New Hampshire on the most-free list were South Dakota, Texas, Florida and Tennessee.
The least-free state is New York, followed by California, Alaska, Hawaii and New Mexico.
How many of these lists do we need to appear on before the electorate realizes how bad a condition we are in because we are a one party, corrupt Democratic Party State? Ainokea reigns in Hawai’i right now, but Aikea is just waiting in the wings. Meanwhile Big Business and Big Labor are the beneficiaries of our apathy.
Interesting comment seeing as how NY made the list and it’s basically the center of commerce in the US, and Alaska and NM are both Republican controlled states (although NM’s house and senate are controlled by different parties, but the governor is republican)
The headline says it all. Great news that Hawaii isn’t the absolute worst.
This is news? Must be a slow day at SA or just printing b.s. again. And “we” the people keep voting for these people time after time.

Erika apparently missed Delaware as being worse than New York.
and two of the state most plagued by political insider corruption are new york and hawaii. there is a correlation. The difference between NY and HI is our insider corruption is cultural in its origins – quanxi as one element. the plantation mentality as another. the union boss as yet another. how many more can the astute commentators of this story bring out for consideration. this is not my area of expertise. educate us.
