Environmental survey touts benefits of planned Waikane cacao farm

After decades of struggle to preserve Waikane Valley, landowner Paul Zweng has plans to restore the native habitat and try to cultivate a small cacao farm. Ohulehule Forest Conservancy LLC has won support from the community, which fought against housing and a golf course. Above, Zweng uses a hatchet to notch the lower portion of the trunk of an albizia tree (which is an invasive species). He will then inject about a teaspoon of herbicide into the notches to kill it.
