Construction gets going on condo tower

Workers from Berkel & Co. Contractors showed off a 250-foot-tall rig they are using to create 400 concrete foundation pillars, some as long as 132 feet, to support the Symphony Hono­lulu condo. The workers are Tony Gregovich, left, Dalton Knox, standing in back, Lany Ramboyon, Lisa Pabre, Les Kuratsu, Brian Zuckerman, James Gilliland, Maurice Kealiinohomoku and Walter Caraang.

There was a traditional Hawaiian blessing and groundbreaking ceremony Wednesday for the 45-story Symphony Honolulu condo tower on the corner of Kapiolani Boulevard and Ward Avenue.
