I ka hale piliwaiwai aku nei au ma Auckland, i Aotearoa, a e like nō me ka mea ma‘amau, ‘o ka pau akula nō ia o kauwahi kenikeni i ka lele kapuahi, a ua lele pū aku nō ho‘i me ia mea he mana‘olana, kekahi o nā mea nui ‘ekolu e kaulana nei i ke mele:

‘Ekolu mea nui

Ma ka honua

‘O ka mana‘o‘i‘o

Ka mana‘olana

‘O ka mea ‘āpiki na‘e, he ‘ānunu paha ke ‘ano o kēia mana‘olana o‘u a he ake kālā ho‘i. ‘A‘ole nō paha e nele kona ho‘i hou ‘ana mai me ka ho‘owalewale pū mai e pili hou aku au i ko‘u mau waiwai. A i loko nō o ko‘u ho‘omaopopo i ka hopena o ia hana, ‘o ke ahu mai o ka ‘ala‘ala, ‘o ia piliwaiwai aku nō ko‘u. ‘O ia ‘ano mana‘olana, he kohu ma‘i ka hoa like a ‘o ka po‘e ‘ilihune a nele i ke kālā ‘ole kona mau luaahi.

Eia aku nō a eia mai, he kupu mai ia nīnau no ka pono a me ka ‘ole o ko Hawai‘i i ka ‘āpono ‘ia o ka piliwaiwai ‘ana ma ko kākou ‘āina nei. Ma ka ‘ao‘ao o ka pono, wahi a ka po‘e kāko‘o piliwaiwai, he pu‘u kālā ke loa‘a mai ma o ka ‘auhau a pēlā e lako ai ka waihona kālā a ke aupuni. A nui mai ke kālā a ke aupuni, nui pū nō me nā polokalamu a ke aupuni e ho‘olako pono ai e la‘a me ka ho‘ona‘auao ‘ana i kā kākou po‘e kamali‘i e noho nele nei i ka lawa ‘ole o nā lā hele kula.

‘O ia ho‘i, he mea lilo wale kākou kānaka i ka ho‘owalewale ‘ia e ke ake kālā me ka mana‘o ē ‘o ia ka mea e pono ai ko kākou noho ‘ana, ka mea ho‘i e ‘ae‘oia ai. ‘O ka ‘oia‘i‘o na‘e, kāka‘ikahi wale nō ka po‘e puka ma ke kālā. ‘O ka nui aku, ua like nō me a‘u, lilo kā kākou kālā i ka mea hale piliwaiwai, a i ‘ole ia, he lilo nō i ua po‘e kāka‘ikahi nei nāna e puka ma ke kālā. Ua maopopo kēia hopena. ‘O ka ikaika na‘e o ka mana‘olana a ake kālā paha, na wai nō ia e pakele aku? E ho‘opakele ‘ia paha kākou i ia ‘ino.

‘O ka ‘ōlelo pale a ka po‘e kāko‘o piliwaiwai, penei ho‘i: Na wai nō ia e mālama i ka pono o ka hoa kanaka? Nāna pono‘ī nō paha ia e mālama i kona pono. ‘A‘ole ia kuleana he mea ili wale aku ma luna o ha‘i. Ua maha‘oi ke koikoi ‘ana i kahi hoa e ho‘ōki i kahi hana ona e pilikia ai. No wai ia pono? Eia ka mea ‘āpiki, ‘a‘ole kēia he nīnau no ka pono wale nō o ka mea piliwaiwai. Na ke aupuni ia e mālama aku i kona pono ke lilo kāna kālā, a he mea ia e emi ai ka pono o kākou a pau. Ua lawa anei ka ‘auhau e loa‘a ana mai ka ‘oihana piliwaiwai e mālama ai i kēia po‘e? A pehea ke kālā e ho‘olako ai i polokalamu e pono ai ka lehulehu e like me ka ho‘ona‘auao ‘ana i nā kamali‘i? Ua lawa?

Inā e ‘ae ‘ia ka piliwaiwai ma Hawai‘i nei, e a‘oa‘o pono kākou i nā kamali‘i ma ke kula i ‘ole e hei i ia mea he ake kālā. ‘Auhea ‘oe e ka makamaka, he ho‘okamani anei ia hana?
