Coming soon (or not) to a UH channel near you

POSTED:

News item: Oceanic Time Warner Cable says it plans to begin a University of Hawaii channel, perhaps as soon as this fall, dedicated to being "all things UH."

Although a UH spokesman said the project "remains in the formative stage," we have learned discussions include offering a lot more than just the school's athletic events to subscribers.

Maybe even shows like these:

» Dancing with the Stars: Highlights of former athletic director Herman Frazier's tap dancing appearance before the Legislature in May of 2007 and performances at the Board of Regents.

» Leahey & Leahey: Father Jim and son Kanoa move their popular PBS show across University Avenue to debate the hot UH issues of the day, such as why the school's athletic teams have four nicknames and whether mice cloned at UH should have kapa designs.

» Manoa Today with Chancellor Virginia Hinshaw. First installment: Haberdashery hints for attending sporting events.

» Warrior Pledge Break: The athletic department conducts a weekly telethon aimed at eliminating the nearly $10 million accumulated net deficit.

» MythBusters: Host Don Robbs debunks popular beliefs such as Boise State's blue turf bedeviling opponents and the aroma of garlic fries in the Stan Sheriff Center causing turnovers.

» Diners: Now that UH is preparing to change leagues, here's a look at the best places to eat in the Mountain West and Big West conferences. Opening segment: Kansas City BBQ in San Diego and the Buckhorn Bar in Laramie, Wyo.

» Without a Trace: Whatever happened to some memorable figures in UH history. Featured subject: Jim Bolla.

» Moments of Impact: Louisiana Tech's fateful decision to pitch to Kolten Wong in the 2010 Western Athletic Conference baseball tournament.

» Your $$$: Associate athletic director John McNamara is your in-the-know host for this inside look at "exciting bargains! and stupendous discounts!" to be found online and at the box office for attending UH events. Special added attraction: preview of Mother-in-law Night promotion.

» Project Runway: A look back in time to the Fabulous Five's aloha print shorts and their coaches' matching jackets.

» Classics: Memorable moments in UH sports. Inaugural show to feature Tes Whitlock's buzzer beater to upset Brigham Young in 1995.

» WAC Smackdown: Wahine basketball coach Dana Takahara-Dias and Idaho's Jon Newlee debate flagrant fouls.

» Cold Case: UH looks into the mystery of whatever happened to that 13th regular-season football game in 2007 and the 1961 season that never took place.

» The Closer: The story of Wahine pitcher Stephanie Ricketts.

» Bones: The medical and training staffs discuss the care and prevention of sports injuries.

» Dirty Jobs: An in-depth look at the two toughest jobs to be had at UH: following Frazier and Dave Shoji.

» Scrubs: Life on the end of the bench for a season.

» Repossessed: The story of UH's 2002 men's NCAA volleyball championship that wasn't.
