Nina H. Fasi, honorary consul of Norway, and son Charlie Fasi, left, assisted "Santa Consul" M. Jan Rumi, honorary consul of Morocco, right, and his son, Fayez Rumi, in distributing Christmas gifts at the Consular Corps of Hawaii Christmas Party on Dec. 13 at the Halekulani hotel. The elder Rumi conducted the grab-bag drawing, with the two young men delivering gifts to the recipients.
Peter Maharaj, left, hung out backstage with Journey founding member Neal Shon after the group's pre-concert sound check Dec. 12 in Blaisdell Arena. Shon, seen here with one of the guitars he used in the show, spent much of the time between the sound check and the sold-out concert drawing elaborate designs on two other guitars as gifts for contest winners.
"Legends in Concert" Chief Operating Officer Brian Brigner, center, congratulated tribute artists Chris VanDahl (Steven Tyler) and Kimberly Goltry (Madonna) after their opening-night performance in the new "Legends in Concert Waikiki" show Dec. 11 in the Royal Hawaiian Theater. See my review at www.HonoluluPulse.com.
Burton White, center, artistic director and general manager of the Hawaii Theatre, had a big hug for the Brothers Cazimero — Robert, left, and Roland — when they came out to meet the audience after their concert "A Cazimero Christmas," Dec. 8. No one celebrates Christmas Hawaiian style like the Cazimeros. A drum-and-guitar duet by Roland and special guest Duane Komine was this year's dramatic highlight.
The Pahinui Hawaiian Band — Cyril Pahinui, seated, Kunia Galdeira, standing left, Elmer "Sonny" Lim Jr. and Greg Sardinha — commemorated the popular success of its self-titled debut album with a party Dec. 8 at the Olomana Golf Links. Pahinui and Lim bring two significant family legacies to the group and its approach to traditional Hawaiian music.
