'Classic' Society of Seven has new look in return to Outrigger

By Wayne Harada

The "classic" Society of Seven, the septet led by Tony Ruivivar, returns to the Outrigger Waikiki's main showroom Tuesday for a limited run after a nine-year absence. Expect a mix of familiar numbers and a revamped roster with three new faces onstage — but also some unexpected offstage casualties. The Society of Seven Las Vegas (or Latest Version), the spinoff group that has been holding fort at the Outrigger, lost two members and will be on vacation, joining the slate perhaps in a rotation with the original SOS.

Richard Natto, who had been SOS LV group leader, and fellow LV'er William Daquiaog, departed last night. Natto will jump-start Toma/Natto with ex-partner Dave Toma, initially with a new acoustic CD with German producer Joerg Alfster. Tours of Japan and the West Coast are on the radar, and Natto also completed a solo video in HD with Mountain Apple producer Jon de Mello, shot atop the Merchant Street law offices of attorney Mark Bernstein. Daquiaog, who operates a music school and was "American Idol" finalist Jasmine Trias' vocal instructor, will focus on his school.

A dinner option has been scrapped, and veteran showroom Ron Lee also has left the operations. ...

PAU HANA: LuLu's Waikiki was wrap party central for "Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides," with producer Jerry Bruckheimer and director Rob Marshall leading 220 cast and crew (nearly everyone, except the lead actors) for a celebration that lasted until 4 a.m. Since the crew was housed at the nearby Waikiki Marriott, LuLu's became an unofficial clubhouse, according to manager Nick Prioletti. DJ Odyssey provided the sounds, and Bruckheimer tirelessly worked the room to thank one and all. Everyone's gone now, off to London and then Los Angeles to continue filming. ...

TRADE WINDS: Director Ron Bright is shaping his "Once on This Island" production, bowing Sept. 10 at Paliku Theatre at Windward Community College. Broadway actor Miles Wesley, playing the lead male, Daniel, spent five years as Simba in the L.A. production of "The Lion King" opposite Hawaii's Jewl Anguay, who was Nala, and Anguay's sister, Tori (Anita in the Bright-directed "West Side Story"), will play the female lead, Ti Moune. The ensemble includes Lenny Villanueva, Chris Lowe, Brianna Pratt and Allan Lau, with Marcelo Pacleb choreographing the pulsating Caribbean-calypso score. Reservations: 235-7310 or www.eTicketHawaii.com. ...

"Hawaii Five-0" actor Scott "Danno" Caan resumes filming tomorrow, after taking an L.A. breather to tend to a problematic knee. "Working with McGarrett (Alex O'Loughlin), you're bound to get bumps and bruises along the way," said exec producer Peter M. Lenkov about the risks. Thus, the proactive medical attention, since Caan does his own stunts. ...

Actress Maura Tierney ("ER," "Rescue Me") replaces Joely Richardson (who did the pilot) as Katheryn Peale in ABC's "The Whole Truth," the legal drama co-starring localite Anthony Ruivivar, as itemed here last week. The show bows Sept. 22. ...

SIGHT 'EMS: Composer Mike Post visited pal Audy Kimura at Hy's Steak House a few nights back. You might not know his name but recognize his TV themes: "Law and Order," "Magnum P.I.," "The Rockford Files" and "Wiseguys." ...
