Isle names add local touch to national marketing firm

Longtime Honolulu ad men Marc Witter and Patrick Bullard are getting some extra visibility with the renaming of Heinrich Hawaii to Heinrich Witter Bullard Marketing.

Colorado-based Heinrich Marketing Inc. opened its Hawaii office in 2003 because president and owner George Eddy "saw the tremendous potential in the marketplace for a fully integrated agency that excelled in all the facets of the advertising industry," Witter said. Witter was placed at the helm, and having his name added to the moniker is "kind of a reward."

Bullard's surname also was added to the nomenclature as part of Eddy's recognition of the growth the local office has achieved.

"The Heinrich brand brings the national reputation and expertise with national and international brands, while the locally recognized names of Witter and Bullard define local expertise," he said.

The name change became effective internally May 2, and the former Heinrich Hawaii website, business cards and other collateral are being updated. The Heinrich Hawaii moniker was never registered as a trade name with the state because the office was an extension of the mainland brand, Witter said. While the new entity will remain part of the Colorado home base, the Hawaii division's new name will be registered to reflect the independent nature of the isle operation, as well as the company's "ever-increasing commitment to the Hawaii market," he said.

Money for lives

Win-win-win scenarios can be as rare as clovers with four leaves, but tomorrow from 6 to 9 p.m, nonprofit Ad 2 Honolulu, comprising advertising industry folk age 32 and younger, will gather at Ka Restaurant and Lounge at Ward Centre. The fun equals win No. 1. The goal is to raise funds for its annual pro-bono marketing campaign — win No. 2. The benefactor of the "Hope Floats" event will be the Hawaii Cord Blood Bank, which coordinates donations of umbilical cord blood for patients with life-threatening diseases, which brings us to win No. 3 — helping others.

Best burgs bout

It won't be as exciting as the Pacquiao-Mosley fight, but 35 cities have begun duking it out for the shared title as one of America's Favorite Cities and Honolulu is among them. Oh, wait, that fight was boring, except for the third-round knockdown of an aging Shane Mosley by the power-packed Manny Pacquiao — but your columnist digresses.

Travel + Leisure magazine's annual poll seeks input on which cities have "everything from the best pizza to the prettiest people," as its website states. As incentive to vote, the magazine entices site visitors to enter to win a $25,000 vacation.

This annual survey asks respondents whether they are residents of or visitors to the cities for which they are voting.

Last year Honolulu took top honors as the favorite romantic escape, the best relaxing retreat and the top spring break destination, and the No. 2 spot for weather and family vacations. At the same time, we were ranked 31st of 35 as an affordable getaway and 33rd for pizza and antique stores.
