Former UH baseball star keeps his eye on the ball

It's nice to be wanted, even nicer to have options.

Former University of Hawaii baseball star Kolten Wong has declined an invitation to be on the USA National Team, just one of 39 players from across the nation asked to be on the team.

Instead, the two-time All-Western Athletic Conference selection will stay with his Cape Cod League team, the Orleans Firebirds, for the summer to focus on his pro future.

Being on the national team (which Wong was, last year) might be the highlight of some players' careers. But for talents like Wong, let's hope that it's just one base in an out-of-the-park home run career.

Jefferson's 'decisive moment' also magical

Thomas Jefferson was quick to use the politically correct word to describe members of the independent nation's public.

Using a high resolution digital camera, preservation scientists at the Library of Congress have determined that the author of the Declaration of Independence first referred to "subjects" in referring to the American public but appears to have used his hand to wipe the word out and replace it with "citizens."

"It shows the progress of his mind. This was a decisive moment," said James Billington, librarian of Congress. "We recovered a magic moment that was otherwise lost to history."
