Family of 4 flees Waipahu apartment fire

Honolulu firefighters extinguished an apartment fire Monday morning in Waipahu.

The fire broke out at about 4:15 a.m. on the balcony of a second-floor apartment at the Dynasty Terrace building at 94-011 Pupunohe St., said fire Capt. Carlton Yamada. The blaze was extinguished in about 15 minutes, Yamada said.

Three adults and a 10-year-old child escaped the apartment without injury. The Red Cross is assisting the family.

Damage from the fire, smoke and water is estimated at $25,000. The cause is under investigation.
