U.S. House hopefuls gain endorsements

Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid has endorsed former Honolulu Mayor Mufi Hannemann in the race for Congress, while City Councilwoman Tulsi Gabbard picked up the nod from U.S. Rep. Dennis Kucinich.
"Mufi and I go back many years. I worked with Mufi and Sen. Akaka to help save Pearl Harbor Naval Shipyard. I worked with Mufi and Sen. Inouye on infrastructure funding and strengthening tourism across the country. We share goals for a better America," Reid, a Nevada Democrat, said Tuesday in a news release issued by the Hannemann campaign.
Hannemann, Gabbard and four others are running in the Democratic primary for the 2nd Congres- sional District seat held by Rep. Mazie Hirono, who is running for U.S. Senate.
Gabbard announced this week that she had gained the endorsements of several prominent Democrats, including Ohio's Kucinich, a former presidential candidate, and U.S. Sen. Kirsten Gillibrand of New York.
"Tulsi believes, like I believe, that it is time to refocus our efforts in Afghanistan, and bring our combat troops home," Gillibrand said in a news release from the Gabbard campaign.

Personally I don't think any amount of endorsements that Mufi gets will cause the people of Hawaii to forget all the corruption, waste and divisiveness that is his legacy. He had plenty of endorsements in the governor's race as well and he got trounced. Even the people that support Mufi don't seem to really like him or trust him, from some of the comments I've read. Tulsi's proven to have incredible momentum and hopefully in a few day's we can finally be done with the Mufi's "dark age of politics" (to paraphrase Ed Case).

It's like the presidency, where it is a custom for the outgoing president not to be involved in the process. And, if he did, his legacy would be tainted. Here's how: Akaka was a stooge for Inouye. Inouye is not a part of the ultra-progressive movement like Hirono and Obama. Inouye endorsed HIllary Clinton when she ran for president. On the other hand, Tulsi worked for Akaka, but Mufi is endorsed by Obama. So, as a good politician like he is, Akaka is better off staying out of it altogether, then to be on one side, while burning bridge on the other side.

I'm a conservative, and I disagree with Congressman Kucinich most of the time. But I think he's a good man with good intentions. And, when he endorses Tulsi, that speaks volumes for me. I'm actually going to vote on the democrat side during the primary, seeing most of the republicans are running unopposed or without any serious challenger. And I'm voting for Gabbard and Case.
