U.S. House hopefuls gain endorsements

By Star-Advertiser staff

POSTED:

Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid has endorsed former Honolulu Mayor Mufi Hannemann in the race for Congress, while City Councilwoman Tulsi Gabbard picked up the nod from U.S. Rep. Dennis Kucinich.

"Mufi and I go back many years. I worked with Mufi and Sen. Akaka to help save Pearl Harbor Naval Shipyard. I worked with Mufi and Sen. Inouye on infrastructure funding and strengthening tourism across the country. We share goals for a better America," Reid, a Nevada Democrat, said Tuesday in a news release issued by the Hannemann campaign.

Hannemann, Gabbard and four others are running in the Democratic primary for the 2nd Congres- sional District seat held by Rep. Mazie Hirono, who is running for U.S. Senate.

Gabbard announced this week that she had gained the endorsements of several prominent Democrats, including Ohio's Kucinich, a former presidential candidate, and U.S. Sen. Kirsten Gillibrand of New York.

"Tulsi believes, like I believe, that it is time to refocus our efforts in Afghanistan, and bring our combat troops home," Gillibrand said in a news release from the Gabbard campaign.

Tulsi has run an awesome campaign and it's so exciting to see the way she's built so much momentum over the past 6 months. People want to vote for someone who they like and trust and that is Tulsi!

agree..we all want her. Mufi is just more of the same. He keeps running and coming back like he is owed a seat!

Mufi's biggest political problem is that Mufi is all about Mufi. This is about public service, not self-aggrandizement.

Senator Gillibrand is an incredibly accomplished leader in Congress who fights for equal rights for all and has worked in Congress to make sure the U.S. stays at the forefront of technological advances - the fact that she has thrown her support behind Tulsi in Washington shows how Tulsi is ALREADY building bridges and forming alliances that will benefit all the people of Hawaii. Go Tulsi!

Personally I don't think any amount of endorsements that Mufi gets will cause the people of Hawaii to forget all the corruption, waste and divisiveness that is his legacy. He had plenty of endorsements in the governor's race as well and he got trounced. Even the people that support Mufi don't seem to really like him or trust him, from some of the comments I've read. Tulsi's proven to have incredible momentum and hopefully in a few day's we can finally be done with the Mufi's "dark age of politics" (to paraphrase Ed Case).

You might wonder if those endorsements are a blessing or a curse. That includes Congresswoman Hirono's new commercial with Congressman Young.

If she was an aide to Senator Akaka, wonder why he hasn't endorsed her?

I don't think Akaka has endorsed anyone, and he shouldn't. He's leaving the seat open, and he shouldn't influence the outcome. It's like the presidency, where it is a custom for the outgoing president not to be involved in the process. And, if he did, his legacy would be tainted. Here's how: Akaka was a stooge for Inouye. Inouye is not a part of the ultra-progressive movement like Hirono and Obama. Inouye endorsed HIllary Clinton when she ran for president. On the other hand, Tulsi worked for Akaka, but Mufi is endorsed by Obama. So, as a good politician like he is, Akaka is better off staying out of it altogether, then to be on one side, while burning bridge on the other side.

Mufi, "I humbly ask for your vote". No way, the most egotistical and self centered politician is known for his arrogant and condencending attitude. Hopefully should Tulsi win and defeat you, we will again get the opportunity to see and hear you humbly accept defeat.

I hope the voters do the right thing and pick the right candidate Gabbard. Goofy has a proven record that he uses the people as pawns and will only think about himself. Please people think before you vote.

One gets a Harry Reid endorsement and one gets a Dennis Kucinich endorsement. Then Mazie gets the Alaska weasel endorsement.

We are so, so very scroo'd.

I'm a conservative, and I disagree with Congressman Kucinich most of the time. But I think he's a good man with good intentions. And, when he endorses Tulsi, that speaks volumes for me. I'm actually going to vote on the democrat side during the primary, seeing most of the republicans are running unopposed or without any serious challenger. And I'm voting for Gabbard and Case.
