Woman Expo tutors on sewing

The eighth annual Hawaii Woman Expo takes place this weekend with 200 booths of shopping, seminars, fashion and a Hawaii Sewing, Quilting and Crafts Show.

Expo hours are 5 to 10 p.m. tomorrow, and 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Saturday and Sunday at Blaisdell Center.

Sewing seminars include one on learning to make "T-shirts for Everyday for You," 5:30 to 6:30 p.m. tomorrow, and another entitled "Great Skirts," 10:30 to 11:30 a.m. Saturday. Cost per class is $10. Register online at www.HawaiiWomanExpo.

Sewers and quilters are invited to bring hand-sewn items for a chance to win sewing machines, including a limited edition "Project Runway" Brother Innov-is 40, a Las Vegas trip and more.

There will be a US Sewing and Bernina of Hawaii Job Fair at Booth 197.

General admission is $3; children under 7 are free. Call 235-2358.

Styling contest at fashion event

If you missed last week's story about Fashion's Night Out Honolulu, which coincides with the start of New York Fashion Week, you can catch some of the details online at http://bit.ly/9OTjtW or the full list of events and deals at www.alamoanacenter.com.

Among events taking place from 5 to 9 p.m. tomorrow, Neiman Marcus is planning a styling contest, Stuart Weitzman trunk show, the "Beauty Event" with makeup tips and makeovers, "Wardrobe Feng Shui" with Alice Inoue, and I'll be sharing some of my trend picks for the season. Mention my blog "Fashion Tribe" for a gift while supplies last.

Also:

» Stop by Philip Rickard on the third-floor Nordstrom Wing between 5 and 9 p.m. to have your jewelry cleaned and inspected free. Rickard will answer questions as well as give free quotations on custom work, redesign, repairs and stone replacements.

The jeweler said cleaning should be performed regularly, not only to restore jewelry to its "like new" appearance, but as a safety precaution. Inspectors can catch problems such as loose stones or prongs before loss or serious damage.

Wedding bells beckon at Hyatt

Hyatt Regency Waikiki Beach Resort and Spa invites the public to sample an ideal wedding day at its Bridal Event, beginning 11 a.m. Saturday.

The event is complimentary for up to two people, and $25 for each additional guest, with reservations available by calling 237-6230.

Couples shopping for ideas for their big day will be able to talk to Hyatt's wedding specialists and learn about the hottest trends in menus, decor, cakes and more.

Featured during the event will be tours of reception sites, suites and rooms, with buffet menu, wedding cake tasting and door prizes.

The Hyatt is at 2424 Kalakaua Ave.
