BRUNO & THE LOVE NOTES 1. Bruno Mars, third from left, talked backstage with his father's group, the Love Notes — Lucas Clemente, left, John Valentine, Pete Hernandez (Bruno's dad), Felix Almestica Bonet and Mike Baker — before taking the stage for his homecoming concert last Sunday in the Blaisdell Arena. Bruno's 80-minute show did Hawaii proud in all respects. Hernandez got a warm round of applause during the Love Notes' opening set when he told the crowd, "I'm so proud to say that he's my son." For my review of the concert, see www.honolulupulse.com.
"NUTCRACKER" NO KA OI! 2. Artistic director Pamela Taylor-Tongg, third from left, celebrated backstage with cast members Timour Bourtasenkov (Snow King/Arabian), left, Megan Fairchild (Sugar Plum Fairy), Joaquin De Luz (Cavalier), Lilyan Vigo Ellis (Dewdrop) and Andrew Veyette (Soldier Doll/lead Russian) after Ballet Hawaii's 2010 production of "Nutcracker" earned a standing ovation for its opening night performance Dec. 17 in the Blaisdell Concert Hall.
3. Philip McNamee (Grandfather) talked with Carolyn Berry (Grandmother) at the post-show party backstage. McNamee contributed a well-played moment of comedy with his showcase dance number in Act 1.
4. Executive director John Parkinson welcomed Stephanie Schenberger (Marie), left, and Romi Beppu (Arabian) to the party. Beppu's performance seemed to surpass the restrictions of human anatomy. Schenberger was perfect as the young heroine. For my review, see www.honolulupulse.com.
SEDAKA ROCKS THE HALL 5. Neil Sedaka, center, thrilled a lucky crowd of online contest winners with a midmorning concert Dec. 17 at the Road Runner Music Hall. Sedaka played an assortment of his classic hits and shared some of the stories behind them. KSSK morning drive kings Larry Price, left, and Michael W. Perry hosted the show. For my review, see www.honolulupulse.com.
