1. "AVENUE Q" CAST PARTIES | Musical director Megan Mount, fourth from left, celebrated March 3 at Manoa Valley Theatre with cast members Miguel Pa‘ekukui (Girl Bad Idea Bear), left, Alison L.B. Maldonado (Gary Coleman), Jen Dickenson (Lucy), Jaq Ryan Galliano (Trekkie Monster) and Chris Villasenor (Rod) at the opening night reception for "Avenue Q."Mount wears a police uniform in the show and got several comments at the party about the handcuffs that accessorize it.
2. "EDUCATION IS THE KEY!" | Betty White, head of school of Sacred Hearts Academy, left, welcomed Dr. Connie Mariano, former White House physician, to a private VIP luncheon March 5 at the New Otani Kaimana Beach Hotel. Mariano told the guests, "Education is the key. No matter how they treat you, they can never take away your education."
3. MARYKNOLL HONORS TSEU, DELA LUNA | Josh Dela Luna (Maryknoll ’12), left, and Dr. Lawrence K.W. Tseu were guests of honor at the 2011 Monsignor Charles A. Kekumano Award and Scholarship Dinner March 5 at the Waikiki Edition. Dela Luna is Maryknoll’s 2011 Kekumano Scholar; Tseu received the Noblesse Oblige Award for his extensive philanthropic activities. Lei Ahu Isa, second from left, and event emcee Nina Kealiiwahamana (Maryknoll ’54) talked with them during the cocktail hour.
4. YANG SELLS OUT ORVIS | Pianist Joyce Yang, center, spent almost 30 minutes meeting the audience after her magnificent sold-out concert March 11 at Orvis Auditorium. Helen Chao-Casano and her husband, Steven Casano, waited until the crowd thinned out before they stepped up to congratulate Yang on her superb performance.
5. SEE DAI DOO CELEBRATES SPRING | The crowd was wall to wall as See Dai Doo Society President Marsha S.Y. Au-Maxwell, third from left, presided at the organization’s 2011 Spring Banquet March 12 at the New Empress Restaurant. Au-Maxwell’s husband, Gary Maxwell, left, joined her in welcoming Honolulu Mayor Peter Carlisle and his wife, Judy, to the banquet.
