Isle designers survive on 'Runway'

Last week I promised to offer updates on Hawaii designers Andy South and Ivy Higa's progress on Season 8 of "Project Runway."

'PROJECT RUNWAY'

» Watch: 6 p.m. today on Lifetime
» Repeats: 8 p.m. tomorrow
When last we saw them, they were members of Team Luxe in a group competition to complete a collection suitable for Fall/Winter 2010.

Team Luxe's bland colors and shapes had judges lamenting their "Golden Girls" creations. Out of two teams, they were No. 2 and, therefore, at the bottom.

While South worked quietly, Higa got a lot of air time due to her conflicts with a teammate, who she believed was a liability to the group.

Too much air time is not always a good thing on "Project Runway," meaning you've either won or you're out.

In the long run, the usually amiable show guru Tim Gunn called out Gretchen Jones for manipulating her team to defeat. But having already won two earlier challenges, she was deemed talented enough by the judges to deserve saving. South and Higa were also safe, and the clownish A.J. Thouvenot was sent home.

April Johnston is a contender for getting the boot next.
