“Hawaii Five-0
The season premiere of the CBS Television’s new version of "Hawaii Five-0" won its time slot last night with an estimated 13.8 million viewers, according to overnight Nielsen ratings released by the network today.
CBS also believes that number will increase to nearly 16 million once viewers with DVRs watch the show.
The show’s nearest competitors were "Castle" on ABC, which drew 11.2 million viewers, and "Chase" on NBC, which drew 7.9 million viewers.
"Five-0" airs at 9 p.m. Mondays on KGMB in Hawaii.
Last night’s premiere came a week after CBS held a sneak preview at Sunset on the Beach in Waikiki that drew more than 5,000 people.
Reviews have generally been positive, although one critic called it "contrived."
The pilot was shot in March, but the series shooting schedule did not start until July. The cast and crew have been shooting all over Oahu while the network spent millions of dollars promoting the show on the Mainland. "Five-0" was one of the most highly anticipated new shows of the new season, which officially began last night.
The state estimates that the current "Five-0" season will generate about $60 million in economic impact as money spent to create the series works its way through the local economy.
The new "Five-0" stars Alex O’Loughlin as Steve McGarrett, Scott Caan as Danny "Danno" Williams, Daniel Dae Kim as Chin Ho Kelly and Grace Park as Kono. It was created by executive producers Peter Lenkov, Alex Kurtzman and Roberto Orci.
ABC’s "Dancing With the Stars" — which this season has contestants ranging from "Brady Bunch" mom Florence Henderson and ex-NFL great Kurt Warner to "Jersey Shore" sensation Mike "The Situation" Sorrentino — was the top show last night.
"Hawaii Five-0," which replaced "CSI Miami," was the most-watched new show for the night. The performance was only 3 percent off from what David Caruso and his gang did last year in their season premiere.
