Fitness and fun abound at culinary event for keiki
The Hawai‘i Food & Wine Festival this year is presenting a culinary event focused on kids at the Honolulu Zoo from 9 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Sept 6.
Keiki in the Kitchen: Food, Fitness & Fun will offer both kids and adults the opportunity to take photos with celebrity chefs such as "Iron Chef" Cat Cora, watch demonstrations on how to make healthy dishes from Santa Monica chef Raphael Lunetta and Chicago chef Art Smith, plus participate in games.
There will also be a farmers market, food trucks, miniature golf, a martial arts demonstration and fitness challenges presented by Hawaii Speed and Quickness.
Six keiki finalists who submitted recipes to the Kellogg’s and Foodland Healthy Lunchtime Challenge last month will be preparing their dishes for judges chef Nobu Matsuhisa of Nobu worldwide, "Iron Chef" Hiroyuki Sakai of La Rochelle in Japan and chef Jason Fox of Commonwealth in San Francisco.
The finalists, ages 8 to 17, are expected to be announced Monday.
Cost is $5 per person presale; free for members of Hawaii Medical Assurance Association (HMAA), the Honolulu Zoo Society and guests at the Outrigger Reef and Outrigger Waikiki properties (limited to two adults, two children).
Regular admission rates to Honolulu Zoo apply ($8 kamaaina adults; $4 children 3 to 12).
