The summer Obon season is nearly here, honoring the Buddhist tradition of commemorating family ancestors, who are said to return to this world to visit relatives. Here is a list of festivities across the state.

OAHU

Hawaii United Okinawa Association: 5:30 to 9:30 p.m. Aug. 30, Kapiolani Park (in conjunction with the Okinawan Festival); food booths open 5 to 8:30 p.m. Also, the "largest indoor bon dance," Sept. 20, 5:30 to 9:30 p.m., Hawaii Okinawa Center, 94-587 Ukee St., Waipio; food booths open 5 p.m. Call 676-5400 or visit huoa.org.

Windward Community College: Autumn Festival and bon dance, 6 to 9 p.m. Sept. 13 at the entrance to Hale La‘akea Library Learning Commons. Activities begin 4 p.m. and food booths open 5 p.m. Call 235-7402.
