CONCERT BENEFITS TOHOKU SURVIVORS
1. Thomas Sorenson, left, and Michele Henry, center, were the hosts of the afternoon Tohoku Tsunami Restoration Concert, a fundraiser for the survivors of the 2011 earthquake and tsunami in Japan, May 3 at their Diamond Head residence. Japanese vocalist Junko Yagami, ukulele master Herb Ohta Jr. and jazz pianist Senri Oe performed in various combinations for more than 90 minutes. Almost everyone sang along when Oe and Yagami did a song about missing one’s hometown.

Silva’s full-cos- tume impersonation of Ho’s late husband, Hall of Fame inductee Don Ho, is so close to the original that the pro- ducers of “Lei of Stars” asked her in advance if she’d be OK with Silva doing it in the show. KAMAKA UKULELE JOINS MUSIC LEGENDS
2. “Lei of Stars” emcee Kimo Kahoano, center, congratu- lated Sam Kamaka, left, and his brother, Fred Kamaka, after their company, Kamaka Ukulele, was inducted into the Hawaiian Music Hall of Fame May 1 at The Royal Hawaiian hotel. The company was founded in 1916 by the Kamakas’ father, Sam Kamaka Sr., and management responsibilities are now handled by their children and grandchildren.
