Sedona to break out the rocks for trunk show

The Sedona Gem and Jewelry Trunk Show this weekend will feature Washington state-based gemstone and jewelry dealer Deidre Berg; the introduction of two new jewelry lines, Tchu Tchu Ka of New York and PRS Jewelry from Washington; and trunk shows of fancy-cut gemstone silver jewelry by Daisy Ho of Hong Kong, wearable stone sculptures by Kevin Lane Smith and nomadic knot jewelry by Isha of Bali.

Sedona also will be selling pieces from the Tucson Gem and Mineral Show containing geodes, natural crystals, rare mineral specimens, ammonite fossils, unusual beads, stone carvings and other unique materials from Russia, Indonesia, Africa, Spain, Peru and Madagascar.

Other offerings include a selection of sterling-silver jewelry with unique stones at dealer prices, as well as a selection of half-price silver jewelry.

The event will take place from 10 a.m. to 9 p.m. Saturday and 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Sunday at the store on the ground level at Ward Centre. A portion of sales will be donated to the Hawaii Foodbank. Call 591-8010 for more information.

UH selling costumes and western outfits

Vintage fanatics should head for the University of Hawaii where there will be a sale of western, slightly damaged and duplicate garments from the UH Costume Collection, from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Sunday.

There will also be accessories and textiles available as well.

The sale will make space available for more collectible items pertaining to Hawaii’s fashion history.

The event will take place in Miller Hall 207 near Varney Circle. Campus parking will be free.

State’s first lady to host shopping event

Nancie Caraway, wife of Gov. Neil Abercrombie, will host a cocktail shopping event from 7 to 9 p.m. today at the Diane von Furstenberg boutique at Ala Moana Center in celebration of International Women’s Day. Ten percent of proceeds from the day will benefit The Women’s Fund.

To mark the occasion, DVF is releasing three limited-edition products, a "Proud to Be Woman" tote ($40) and iPhone case ($25) and the "Proud to Be Woman (Vol. 3)" compilation of music by a diverse mix of female artists ($30).

Ten percent of proceeds from boutique sales through March 15 will benefit Vital Voices, an organization dedicated to empowering women worldwide.

Discount heralds launch of jewelry collection, website

Scentient Beings dissect fragrance and perfumery

The Green House Urban Innovation Hub is hosting the second meeting of Scentient Beings, a gathering for those interested in learning about the art, experience and expression of fragrance and perfumery, beginning at 6 p.m. today.

Attendees are urged to bring a favorite bottle of fragrance and share information about its notes, perfumer, history and marketing.

Online sources of information about specific cologne, "eau de toilette," "eau de parfum" and perfume include fragrantica.com. Moderator Mary A. Wilkowski will lead a discussion about the Chypre (pronounced SHEE-pray) fragrance family.
