City officials are urging drivers to avoid Kalakaua Avenue and Ala Moana Boulevard when heading into Waikiki because of heavy traffic due to traffic restrictions because of the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation conference.

Kapiolani Boulevard near the Hawai’i Convention Center and one Diamond Head-bound lane of Ala Moana Boulevard are closed.

Motorists heading into Waikiki should use either Kapahulu Avenue or McCully Street, according to the city Department of Emergency Management.

The department sent out the advisory at 7:37 p.m. Tuesday. To receive advisories from the Department of Emergency Management, sign up on Nixle at www.nixle.com.
