Kunia Loa Ridge hit with citations

    The crackdown on unauthorized activities at Kunia Loa Ridge Farmlands follows on the heels of Honolulu Star-Advertiser stories over the past two years exposing the proliferation of unregulated construction throughout the hilly, remote site.

    A Buddhist statue and altar were discovered recently in a structure at Kunia Loa Ridge Farmlands, an 854-acre development that is restricted to agribusiness use only. The city issued a citation — the second one in as many years for that lot — for operating a meeting facility. After the first citation was issued last year, the statute was removed, according to the city. The latest citation was one of 12 issued recently for violations within the entire project and represents a crackdown on illegal activities there.

The city, cracking down on unauthorized activities at an off-the-grid agriculture development in Kunia, recently issued a dozen citations to owners of the 854-acre project and expect to send out more in the coming weeks, including those for illegal residential use. Read more
