Turtle decline prompts warning

    Green sea turtles sun themselves on a small island in the French Frigate Shoals. A study at the shoals this summer by the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration found a dramatic decline in nesting turtles compared to last year, but scientists don’t believe the species is in trouble.

With the newly expanded Papahanaumokuakea Marine National Monument taking center stage at the World Conservation Congress in Honolulu, a conservation group is warning of a “dangerous drop” in the number of nesting Hawaiian green sea turtles in the Northwest Hawaiian islands. Read more
