Island Images: Museum receives 'Cheeky Charlie'

A crew of volunteers from the Pacific Aviation Museum Pearl Harbor and the Hawaii Military Vehicle Preservation Association towed a C-47 from Honolulu Airport to the museum on Ford Island Saturday night. The short trip from Lagoon drive to Ford Island via Nimitz took about 45 minutes. The WWII aircraft was owned by Kamaka Air, an air freight company. It will be put on display at the museum. Above, an Ex-Kamaka Air C-47 awaits moving from Honolulu International's South Ramp, illuminated by the lights and shadows of a volunteer crew preparing to move her. This aircraft served with the U.S. 5th Air Force in the Philippines and was named CHEEKY CHARLIE during the war.
