Mayor Peter Carlisle, left, flashed a shaka Friday after topping the city Christmas tree at Hono­lulu Hale with a giant star with help from firefighters Beau Gilliland and Kehau Lau. The 2012 Hono­lulu City Lights will open today, with food booths and keiki rides opening on the Hono­lulu Civic Center grounds at 4 p.m. and the Electric Light Parade from Chinatown to Hono­lulu Hale beginning at 6 p.m. Carlisle will light the 50-foot tree at 6:30 p.m.
