Generous subscribers to the Star-Advertiser helped the newspaper collect $140,000 in donations to the Campaign for Hawaii’s Children at Kapiolani Medical Center for Women & Children. Readers pledged money to the hospital when they renewed their subscriptions. The gift was presented during a ceremony at the hospital Tuesday by Dennis Francis, Star-Advertiser president and publisher, holding the check, to the Kapiolani Health Foundation, sponsor of the campaign. Others in attendance were Dave Kennedy, left, Star-Advertiser senior vice president/marketing; Michael Robinson, Kapiolani Health Foundation president; Martha Smith, Kapiolani Medical Center COO; Chuck Sted, Hawaii Pacific Health CEO; and Ray Vara, Hawaii Pacific Health president.
