Island Images: Transit of Venus, June 5, 2012

The University of Hawaii Institute for Astronomy set up a variety of telescopes on the beach in Waikiki for the public to view the transit of Venus across the face of the sun. The Institute also provided sun viewing filters for looking at the sun and projected a video taken from a live feed from telescopes on Mauna Kea on the Big Island, as seen on the screen in the background, and from Haleakala on Maui.
