Technical education takes off

The career technical education class of Wendell Tashiro, back right, teaches students design and construction using the latest technology. Tashiro’s students — Jarem Abella, left, Gilbert Barrientos, Bryan Caluya, Teresa Gabaylo and Kristen Balanza — were commissioned recently to create a lighted centerpiece for a Public Schools of Hawaii Foundation banquet. The design team used 3-D printers and state-of-the-art software to create the Symbol of Achievement centerpiece. Below, a CO2 laser engraver was used to make the design for the centerpiece’s base.
