Hymns for her: Hawaiian music fills a New York church to honor Blessed Marianne
Calvin Liu, musical director of the Cathedral of Our Lady of Peace in Honolulu, wore an aloha shirt bearing images of Mother Marianne Cope as he played an ukulele to accompany Hawaiian music at the Franciscan Church of the Assumption for what church officials believe is the first time in the church’s 145-year history. Singing with Liu was Robert Mondoy, wearing an identical Cope-inspired aloha shirt.
