Tea party activist struggled after sex case arrest
Greg Peterson, center, appeared in Fourth District Court in Salt Lake City to schedule a preliminary hearing. Peterson, a Republican activist charged with raping five women, apparently committed suicide Tuesday at the Heber, Utah cabin where the crimes allegedly took place, sheriff's officials said. Two bail bond agents were dispatched to the cabin Tuesday to check on Peterson because his ankle monitor was not responding, Wasatch County Sheriff Todd Bonner said. Peterson, 37, had been out on bail since Oct. 19 on multiple charges of rape, assault and kidnapping. He was to stand trial on 23 felony charges and two misdemeanor counts.
