Legacy of service

Daniel Akaka was a champion for Native Hawaiians during his time in the U.S. Senate. He attempted to gain federal recognition for Native Hawaiians with the right to self-government, but the legislation failed in the Senate despite passing the House three times. Here, Akaka was greeted by Jewel Paguyo at the Hawaiian Vote Rally & Free Concert at Iolani Palace in 2006.
