Philippines passes divisive contraceptives bill over church's objection

Filipino women celebrated as Philippine legislators passed a landmark law that would provide government funding for contraceptives and sexuality classes at the Philippine Congress today. Philippine legislators passed the law despite strong opposition by the dominant Roman Catholic Church and its followers, some of whom threatened to ask the Supreme Court to thrash the legislation.
