The five hopefuls to succeed Mayor Mufi Hannemann have agreed to a debate next month.

Organizers say city Managing Director Kirk Caldwell, Honolulu Prosecutor Peter Carlisle, City Councilman Donovan Dela Cruz, University of Hawaii engineering professor Panos Prevedouros and City Councilman Rod Tam will participate.

The forum is being presented by the West Oahu Economic Development Association and the Kapolei Chamber of Commerce is scheduled from noon to 2 p.m. July 9 at the Filipino Community Center in Waipahu.

Debate issues will include the rail transit project, economic development, social services and real estate development.

Candidates are running to fill the final two years of the term being vacated by Hannemann, who plans to resign next month to run for governor.

The fee for the event is $35 for association and Kapolei Chamber of Commerce members, $45 for nonmembers. Registration begins at 10:45 a.m.
