A 47-year-old motorcyclist from Kilauea died after losing control of his bike and crashing Wednesday night in Anahola, Kauai officials said yesterday.
The victim was identified as Patrick Belmonte. He was traveling westbound on Kukuihale Road near Pilipoli Road when he crashed at 9:30 p.m. He was pronounced dead at the scene. Kauai police said speed may have been a factor and that they are investigating.
Police arrested a 22-year-old man yesterday who allegedly broke into the Kokua Market in Moiliili last Friday.
The man allegedly entered the market through the skylight dome on the roof. The man activated the store's alarm system and caused damage as he tried to flee the market, police said.
Police issued a CrimeStoppers bulletin Wednesday.
The man was released pending investigation.
Police are looking for a heavily tattooed man with a shaved head and gold necklace in connection with shots fired from one vehicle at another on a Salt Lake street.
The attempted-murder case began June 17 when one of the victims was challenged to a fight in front of the Salt Lake Shopping Center Blockbuster Video store.
The victim left the parking lot in his vehicle around 10:30 p.m. and was followed by the suspect. As the victim was driving along Ala Kamaile Street near Ala Akulikuli Street, the suspect pulled alongside in a dark-colored Nissan Pathfinder and shouted for him to pull over, police said.
The victim ignored the shouting and continued driving but then had his vehicle rammed several times by the Pathfinder. A passenger in the Nissan then fired several gunshots at the victim's vehicle. The Nissan then sped off.
The suspect being sought is believed to be between 18 and 20, between 5 feet 6 inches and 5 feet 8 inches tall, about 140 to 180 pounds, with a shaved head, multiple tattoos on his chest and a gold rope chain around his neck.
