GLOBAL FELLOWSHIP: Delegates dressed in the traditional wardrobe of their native countries chatted yesterday at the Sheraton Waikiki Hawaii Ballroom prior to the beginning of the 2010 Baptist World Alliance Women's Leadership Conference. The Baptist World Alliance is a fellowship of 216 Baptist organizations with a membership of more than 37 million.
1 PADDLE, 2 PADDLE, 3 PADDLE ... | Chuck Inman paddled in Maunalua Bay Thursday with a pair of paddleboards in tow. He was preparing for a Kamehameha Schools ocean program.
Troy Caminos put the finishing touches yesterday on a highway sign workers had just replaced at the intersection of Nimitz Highway and Sand Island Access Road. The sign was replaced because it was faded and damaged by graffiti.

40 YEARS OF STRUMMING | Many gathered at Kapiolani Park Bandstand yesterday for the 40th Annual Ukulele Festival. The audience was treated to hours of entertainment by Herb Ohta Jr., David Kamakahi, Jon Yamasato, Scott Agena, Tommy D and many other local musicians. Also on the lineup was Kyas Ryo, winner of the Fourth Annual Kiwaya Ukulele Contest in Japan. He wowed the audience and showed that he deserved the title.

PATH TO PEACE: The Honpa Hongwanji Buddhist Temple sponsored a Peace Walk on Friday from the Nuuanu temple to the Nagasaki Peace Bell Memorial on the grounds of City Hall. The Rev. Mary David carried origami cranes while walking along Beretania Street. The walk commemorated a pilgrimage by three Buddhist monks who carried an ember of the atomic flame from Nagasaki to its point of origin at the White Sands Missile Range in Trinity, N.M.

BIEBER FEVER IN THE AIR | Tickets for the general public went on sale yesterday morning for Justin Bieber's concerts on Oct. 8 and 9 at the Blaisdell Arena. Kaylina Ayala waited in line at the Blaisdell box office, with her favorite poster of Bieber in hand.
OBSERVING LAHAINA NOON | Members of Geocaching, a global positioning system treasure hunting group, gathered at Skygate Park yesterday to observe the Lahaina noon at 12:37 p.m. Lahaina noon is a phenomenon that occurs in areas just south of the Tropic of Cancer when the sun is positioned directly overhead, thereby casting little shadow -- or none with perfectly straight objects. The "Skygate" sculpture, by Isamu Noguchi, produced a perfectly centered shadow on the concrete base below it.
