The University of Hawaii at Manoa's School of Nursing and Dental Hygiene is one of 63 schools that will receive scholarship funding from the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation and the American Association of Colleges of Nursing.

Five $10,000 scholarships will be awarded to students entering accelerated nursing programs during the 2010-2011 academic year.


The 100th Infantry Battalion Legacy Organization has named Maya L.M. Yamane, a graduating senior from Punahou School, as the recipient of its $3,000 scholarship.

The scholarship is awarded to help perpetuate the legacy of the battalion and its motto of "for continuing service."


Eric Liaw, a recent graduate of Punahou School, was one of four winners of gold medals at the USA Biology Olympiad national finals in May. The winners represented the U.S. at the 2010 International Biology Olympiad July 11-18 in Changwon, South Korea.

The U.S. Olympiad, sponsored by the Center for Excellence in Education, is one of the most prestigious national science competitions for high school students.


The Hawaii Foodbank raised a record-breaking $184,940 in its "Check Out Hunger" annual fundraising campaign. Safeway Hawaii shoppers contributed more than $89,500 to the 2009-10 program, more than any participating retailer. The Safeway Kihei store on Maui alone raised more than $11,600.
