A 2-acre brush fire forced police to close one lane of the H-1 freeway yesterday during rush-hour traffic.
The fire started at about 3:50 p.m. along the Waianae-bound side of H-1, past the North-South Road onramp and below the Grace Pacific quarry, said Honolulu fire Capt. Robert Main.
Twenty-two firefighters responded with four engines, three tankers and a helicopter, Main said. Grace Pacific also provided a tanker to help supply water.
The fire was extinguished shortly before 7 p.m., Main said.
No one was injured and no property was damaged.
The cause has not been determined.
Police arrested three teenagers after they allegedly broke into a church in Waianae.
A witness called police after seeing people enter the Waianae United Methodist Church at 85-671 Farrington Highway at about 1:15 a.m. yesterday, police said.
Police found the suspects nearby - two boys, ages 14 and 16, and a 16-year-old girl - and arrested them on suspicion of second-degree burglary.
